College life is probably one of the most exciting, and exhausting, points of a student’s life. This is where we gain more friends, specialize in a profession, reach different places, and so much more that high school hasn’t given us. For some, it can be a dream, but for others, it’s a nightmare. Now for incoming college students, it is a living puzzle. What if you still have no plans yet? What if you hadn’t come up with a decision yet? As college seniors, we are here to help. As you are yet to step onto college life, here are some useful reminders to keep in mind…

Choose a course in line with your preferences. (Delos Reyes, Mary Angeline C.)

Picking the best course for yourself in college is a vital decision-making process because this is highly accountable to the type of job that you will soon be applying to. As you are about to enter college life, you must take a course that you like the most, or is aligned with your learning interests and strengths. It will never be too exhausting doing something that you are really fond of, so it is better to pursue doing something that you genuinely enjoy. In this way, you will be more motivated to learn and finish the entire course with not much regrets.  This will not only develop your intelligence and capabilities in that area, but will also accompany you to be a better professional someday.

Choose your desired university. (Carado, Jyreh Mark C.)

In choosing a college university, you need to list the universities that offer your desired course, then send an application to all the schools you want. The more choices you have, the more possibility you can go to your aimed college university. Aside from that, it would be best to consider the place where your school is. The perfect learning environment can help you get through your educational experience. You can stay close to your home or experience living independently in a completely new place that’s near your university you decide.

Know your strengths and weaknesses. (Medina, Hazel)

As new college students, we must know our own strengths and weaknesses in order to understand our own limitations. Each of us is unique in terms of strengths and weaknesses. We have distinct personalities, perspectives, talents, and attitudes, which is one of the things that proves we are human. However, it is one of human strengths. Our most essential value is our strongest thinking. Moreover, it can also be our downfall. Because of our cognitive ability. It is vital that we recognize our own weaknesses and strengths. Our weakness is that we can lose motivation to achieve our goals; for example, if we are weak in vocabulary, we should read a book to heal ourselves and improve our vocabulary. Meanwhile, our strength serves as a guide for us to further master our skills or areas where we excelled.

Be productive. (Vasquez, Regine)

Being productive and staying on track with work for the majority of time is one of the most important roles of a college student. If a student remains productive, he or she is more likely to overcome new hurdles and difficulties while working, which may improve his ability to take new steps and handle situations more professionally. Instructors may find you a reliable person because of your approach toward the task at hand, and you can produce high-quality work or tasks as well as sticking to it. Productivity makes you a motivated person because you have a goal to achieve and it may give you a reason why you are doing the work or task. When the task is completed, it makes you feel confident and helps you grow in any aspect of work.

Choose your friends. (Bosiyo, Jacel Ann N.)

It is surely difficult to survive college life alone. Whether you like it or not, you need to find the students who care enough about their education. In order to do that, you should interact with anyone in your class, especially on the first day of the school year— so, you can have an idea about what kind of people are around you.  It can be someone who helps us correct our mistakes and teach us the part of our lessons that we have difficulties comprehending, or someone who makes sure no one will be left behind. Consider yourself lucky if you have both. Be careful of the people we choose to be with; they reflect who you are. We need to make sure we'll be with the right people as they will be the ones to walk beside us in this journey.

Don't be stressed, just enjoy. (Luayon, Shella Mae)

When you  start college, you can feel that you are under a lot of pressure to make every decision depending on your chosen path, but don't let the pressure get to you. Your time in university is your opportunity to try different things and see what works best for you. Take classes that interest you, encourage yourself to learn things outside of your comfort zone, and take advantage of everything your university has to offer. You have plenty of time to figure out your path, and it will change as you progress through life. Don't feel pressured to know everything we never do. This is what makes life so enjoyable. Take advantage of the opportunity to study and enjoy as much as possible.

Prioritize your classes. (Tagupa, April Ann)

Learning is a journey that leads to an understanding, insights, or knowledge that will help you achieve your goals and objectives. It's neither difficult nor easy; it all depends on how you value it and how much time you devote to it. Always keep in mind why we're doing this and why we're doing it. All you have to do now is always put your class first as a priority, no matter what. You'll become a busy person with a lot of projects and chores that must be completed quickly, causing you stress and pressure. Nonetheless, if you are constantly focused on your college goal, it will be easy and worthwhile.

Avoid Plagiarism. (Alorro, Gerome A.)

Plagiarism is an ethical issue at its core. A writer who uploads stolen material with the aim to profit from it is committing theft. This is true whether you're submitting a school paper in the hopes of getting a "A" or earning a job as a writer. Avoiding plagiarism as a student is critical since it jeopardizes your credibility. It could cost you valuable professional recommendations and opportunities for advancement, as well as the respect of your mentors and peers. If you're in college, plagiarizing could cost you financial aid or leadership positions. Furthermore, it denies credit or profit to the work's original creator, perhaps landing you in further legal trouble if the source takes legal action against you.

As incoming college students, you might really have a lot of things going around your head right now, and that is normal. It can be pretty challenging as beginners, indeed, but choose to do what you think will be best for you. College will be the starting point of your journey in the real world, make sure to think about it thoroughly. And once you’re finally there, remember that it is a daily choice to take, and a lifetime to build.
